Each quarter, the Pioneer Leadership Program (PLP) brings leaders from the greater community to DU to speak to students about the initiatives and impacts that they, as an individual or with their organizations, are making in Denver and beyond.
Our second-year students heard from Evan Weissman, who is the founder and CEO of Warm Cookies of the Revolution. Warm Cookies is a civic health club which can be described as a place to exercise the civic aspects of your life just like you would exercise the physical aspects of your life at the gym. Evan spoke to the students about the need for people in our communities to come together despite differences, and talk about what is going on in the world at large and Denver at large.
This event was impactful for our students as they are currently engaged in their Community Change Initiative projects. These projects are year-long initiatives spearheaded by our second-years and centered around issues and topics that are important to them such as homelessness, sexual assault prevention and education, and equity in education. Evan was able to empower our students to continue and enhance their conversations with community partners about these topics.
